Dead Air.

October 26, 2010

‘Two Minutes Silence’ is a music video created for this year’s Poppy Appeal. It features ex-Servicemen who are helped by the British Legion along with well known British icons including Andy Murray, David Tennant and Thom Yorke. It’s a tried idea, but by no means tired judging by the outcome.

If it get’s to number 1 on Remembrance Sunday as planned, Radio 1 will be obliged to play two minutes of silence on the radio. To harness the collective power of the people, there is also a Facebook page dedicated to the campaing hosted by the British Legion at  http://www.facebook.com/poppysingle2010?ref=mf

This and my previous post has got me thinking  about the power of silence. Check out this interview with John Cage. He’s the guy who composed the 1952 composition 4’33” the three movements of which are performed without a single note being played.

…and here’s Thom again, for when the silence becomes too great.

Remember.
